To reach this conclusion, the iVerify Pakistan team conducted a reverse image search to find the original video.

A user shared a video of PTI activist Sanam Javed on social media platform X on July 17, 2024, with a man’s arm around her, claiming it was her lawyer’s and making lewd allegations. However, the arm in the video is her father’s.

Javed is a PTI activist and a member who is implicated in multiple cases related to the violence that occurred on May 9, 2023. On July 10, 2024, the Lahore High Court discharged her in a case registered against her in Gujranwala. She walked free on July 18 following the Islamabad High Court’s decision to declare her arrest illegal and allow her to return to Punjab.

HOW IT STARTED

On July 17, 2024, an account, that appeared to be anti-PTI based on its past posts, shared a video of Javed sitting on a sofa with a man’s arm around her shoulders embracing her in a half-hug.

The account claimed that the arm was her lawyer’s and made lewd allegations about them. The post gained one million views.

METHODOLOGY

A fact check was initiated to determine the veracity of a claim due to its viral nature and the lewd allegations about the PTI activist and her lawyer during her legal proceedings.

To investigate the circulated video, a reverse image search was conducted using a screenshot from the video.

The search yielded a video uploaded on the X account of “political channel” Naya Pakistan on July 14, 2024, with the caption, “Sanam Javed’s father and mother loving their daughter”.

The video showed Javed sitting with a man who was talking to her and embracing her in a half-hug. The video was shared by different social media users as well.

A comparison of the two videos showed that they featured the same man, wearing a blue shalwar kameez and a watch on his left hand.

Further investigation yielded a July 17 X post by Mian Ali Ashfaq responding to the original viral post and saying that the man with Javed was her father.

The lawyer warned the account that he could very easily pursue legal proceedings against it and to tread carefully in the future, saying he might not give it another chance the next time.

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim regarding a video of PTI activist Sanam Javed with a man’s arm around her, allegedly her lawyer’s, is false.

In the original video with a greater view of the frame, it can be clearly seen that Javed is sitting with her father who has his arm around her.
