Multiple Bangladeshi users on social media platforms X, Facebook and YouTube shared a video on February 12, 2026, allegedly showing a man stamping multiple ballot papers during the recent Bangladesh elections. However, the clip is old, from the 2024 local elections in Chhagalnaiya, Bangladesh.

After former prime minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted in a Gen Z-led uprising in 2024, Bangladesh held general elections on February 12, 2026.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won an overwhelming two-thirds majority, securing 212 of the 299 seats. Meanwhile, the opposition Jamaat-i-Islami and its allies won 70 seats in the Jatiya Sangsad, or House of the Nation.

HOW IT STARTED

On February 12, a social media user, who appears to be a Bangladeshi based on his X bio, shared a video showing a man ballot stuffing with the following caption: “Yunus has gifted a very beautiful election in Bangladesh today. Here, I’ve shared the video.”

The post gained 121,525 views.

Another social media account shared the same clip on Facebook with the following caption: “Seal and seal of the ballot paper, the leader ran away after seeing the camera!”

The post garnered two million views.

Another Bangladeshi user also shared a video with a similar claim. The post was captioned: “No one saw anything - you carry on.”

The post accumulated 236,000 views.

The clip with a similar context was shared by several other users on Facebook, as can be seen here and here; on X, as seen here, here, here, here, here, here; on YouTube, as seen here, here, here, here, here and here.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality and keen public interest in Bangladesh’s general elections.

A Google reverse image search was conducted to trace the source of the video, which yielded a Facebook video shared by Bangla digital media outlet Feni TV on June 5, 2024. The video was captioned: “This voter single-handedly sealed all the ballots in the Chhagalnaiya Upazila Parishad Election 2024”.

According to the post, an individual was seen stamping multiple ballot papers at the Chhagalnaiya (second-tier local government body) elections in 2024.

The same video was also shared by another local Bangladeshi digital media outlet, Noakhali TV, on June 5, 2024.

A keyword search for news reports related to the Upazila local elections yielded a report published by prominent Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star on June 5, 2024, headlined, “4th Phase: 57 upazilas go to polls today.”

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim that a viral video of a man ballot stuffing during the recent Bangladesh elections is misleading.​
