Multiple users on social media platform X have been sharing a video since March 30, 2026, claiming it shows Indian Home Minister Amit Shah undermining Pakistan’s role as a mediator in the Middle East conflict during a speech at the Lok Sabha. However, the clip is doctored.
Amid the ongoing Middle East conflict — which commenced after the United States and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran last month — Pakistan has recently emerged as a potential mediator, offering to facilitate dialogue and de-escalation between the parties.
Pakistani officials have held high-level engagements with both Washington and Tehran and proposed hosting negotiations to end the conflict. However, while US officials have indicated backchannel communication, Iranian authorities have denied participating in formal talks, leaving the mediation efforts uncertain.
HOW IT STARTED
On March 30, 2026, an account on X that frequently shares propaganda and AI-generated content posted a video clip with the caption: “Breaking: Amit Shah explodes in the Indian parliament, ‘Whatever India has done or not done, does not matter because Pakistan is supposed to be a part of India. If Pakistan gets successful in mediation, it’s ultimately a win for India’.”
The post gained 109,600 views.
The transcript of the viral clip reads: “What is Pakistan? Pakistan is not the name of any country. The only country is India. What will happen if Pakistan ends the Iran-America dispute by showing the work of the broker? If Islamabad becomes India’s politics in the future, then this will also be the work of Indian society. We have no reason to worry about this. Iran will fall, then Pakistan will fall, and then a new Israel and a new India will be reborn. Asim Munir is our enemy now, and India knows how to deal with all its enemies.”
Another account shared the same clip on the same day with a similar caption, gaining over 25,o00 views.
The same video clip was also shared by several other accounts on X, as can be seen here, here, here, here, here, here, and here; collectively gaining over 23,000 views.
METHODOLOGY
A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality and keen public interest in Pakistan’s role in the ongoing Middle East conflict.
An analysis of the video revealed several visual and audio discrepancies: firstly, Amit Shah’s tone and delivery in the viral clip appear unnatural, with inconsistent pacing, abrupt pauses, and awkward emphasis on certain words.
Secondly, the pitch and intonation fluctuate irregularly in the video as compared to other speeches delivered by him — signs that suggest the audio has likely been altered or synthetically generated.
Moreover, a reverse image search conducted to trace the source of the viral clip yielded a video uploaded on the official YouTube channel of Amit Shah on March 30, 2026, titled: “HM Shri Amit Shah addresses Lok Sabha on India’s Decisive Fight Against Naxalism.”
A review of the full speech, which is approximately one and a half hours long, confirmed that no such statement was made by him during his address.
Amit Shah’s speech was reported by several Indian outlets, including ThePrint, IndiaTV News, and Deccan Herald, none of which mentioned any statement about Pakistan’s mediation efforts. Instead, the coverage shows that while addressing the Lok Sabha, Amit Shah criticised the Congress party for failing to curb Naxal violence and claimed that left-wing extremism has largely been eradicated, particularly in Bastar, crediting the BJP-led government under Narendra Modi for development and security measures, while emphasising constitutional solutions over violence.
When the team ran the clip on AI detection tools, Sora AI video detector flagged the video as 33.3 per cent AI-generated, suggesting that the content may have been altered or synthetically manipulated.
