To arrive at this verdict, the iVerify Pakistan team reverse-searched the video.

HOW IT STARTED

On April 24, 2024, a video was circulated on social media platform X with the caption, “’This is the status of Comsats University Islamabad. Where teachers give less education to the girls of the nation and teach more obscenity. Will anyone speak against them or will it be avoided by saying that it is their own will?”

The post gained over 100,000 views.

The same video was shared by other X users with a similar caption a day earlier on April 23.

These posts can be seen here and here and gained a combined total of over 57,000 views.

The video was also shared by Pakistani Facebook groups on April 23 here, here and here with a total of over 37,000 views.

METHODOLOGY

The iVerify Pakistan sought to determine the veracity of the video due to the keen public interest in the clip purportedly belonging to an educational institution and its high virality observed across two social media platforms.

To verify the claim, the team conducted a reverse image search for the video from various screenshots and found the same video dated February 2, 2024, shared on the social media platform Instagram.

The video was shared by an Indian user with the caption, “Amity University for a reason.”

Further investigation led the team to a short clip on YouTube titled, “Amity University”, and dated April 13.

The iVerify team was not able to determine whether the video was actually of a student from India’s Amity University or not.

However, the fact that an Indian account shared it back in February 2024 and the iVerify team found no prior share of the video in relation to Comsats University led to the conclusion that it does not feature a female student from the university in Islamabad.

For further clarification on the matter, the team has also contacted Comsats University Islamabad for a response and will update the report accordingly.

CONCLUSION

The iVerify Pakistan team has determined that the claim that the viral video of a girl dancing is from Comsats University Islamabad is false.

The team found the same video shared previously by an Indian account in relation to an Indian university.
