Claim

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah admits he is being threatened since July 14, 2024,
 to resign

Rating Justification

The iVerify Pakistan team has reviewed this content and determined that it is
 false.

To reach this conclusion, the iVerify Pakistan team examined and investigated
the August 10, 2024, speech of Supreme Court senior puisne judge Justice
 Mansoor Ali Shah.

Multiple posts on social media platform X on August 29, 2024, began claiming
that Justice Mansoor Ali Shah admitted to receiving threats since July 14 to
resign. However, the judge has made no such remarks.

Justice Shah is the next in line to be the chief justice of Pakistan. He
addressed a conference on minority rights on August 10 where he spoke about
minority issues and also made remarks about Supreme Court judgments and their
 implementation.

HOW IT STARTED

On August 29, 2024, a claim began circulating on social media alongside a
video of Justice Shah from his August 10 address.

An X account, identifying itself as a fan account of senior anchorperson
Aftab Iqbal, shared an 11-minute video of the judge’s
address with the caption: “Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s revelation. After July
14, I am being threatened to resign, but I have to fix the 75-year-old system
now. My people understand me so there is no need to fear, I can handle all
 these things.”

The post gained 91,300 views and was reshared 5,200 times. The account had
itself reshared the video from a PTI supporter’s account which notably did not
 include the caption.

The same caption with the same video was shared here.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to verify the claim due to its growing virality
and the alarming nature of the alleged remark from the second-most senior
Supreme Court judge who is due to become the next chief justice.

Reviewing the 11-minute video attached to the claim showed that it contained
no remark from the judge even remotely similar to the comments attributed to
 him in the viral captions.

Leading English news outlet Dawn.com also
reported his speech in an August 10 news story and did not mention any remark
resembling the claim made in the X posts.

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim that the Supreme Court’s Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has admitted to
receiving threats since July 14 is false.

The judge made no such remark in his August 10 address, a portion of which
was doing the rounds on social media with the viral claim.
