Posts from multiple users on social media platforms X, Facebook and TikTok on June 24, 2025, shared a clip claiming to show mid-rise buildings in Israel collapsing due to Iranian missile strikes. However, the video is AI-generated.

Israel launched wide-scale air strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities, military sites and private residences, killing top commanders, scientists and hundreds others on June 13. Both countries traded wave after wave of devastating strikes and missile volleys since then. A ceasefire was achieved on June 24.

HOW IT STARTED

On June 24, an X account shared a 16-second clip which shows a large area of destruction, where multiple buildings have collapsed and smoke is rising from the debris.

An Israeli flag is visible atop a prominent building in the foreground, indicating the location is likely in Israel.

The caption of the post read, “The world will remember the leader who came and put Israel in its rightful place.”

The post received over 588,000 views and 4,200 reshares.

The same clip was shared by several other X users, as seen here, here, here, here, here and here, collectively accumulating over 340,000 views.

Similarly, the clip was found on Facebook too as can be seen here, here and here.

The same clip was found on TikTok as can be seen here, here, and here getting 110,000 views.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its high virality and keen public interest in the Iran-Israel conflict.

Observation of the clip pointed to multiple discrepancies characteristic of AI-generated videos. The movement of vehicles — particularly emergency responders — appears robotic, lacking realistic acceleration, turning or interaction with the environment.

The crowd remains largely static and repetitive, with minimal individual motion, and some human figures show visible distortions. Upon closer examination, black vehicles mysteriously disappear mid-route, and an unusual multi-vehicle collision occurs where cars move unnaturally, even passing through pedestrians who remain unaffected — strong indicators of digital manipulation.

Additionally, structural inconsistencies are evident: a building on the bottom left changes entirely between frames and a burned structure appears on the right side that is absent in earlier visuals.

The smoke patterns also vary — on one side, it appears distant and static, while on the other, it rises sharply in conflicting directions, further suggesting artificial rendering.

Examining the video using AI detection tools revealed that Hive Moderation flagged it with a 33.6 per cent likelihood of being AI-generated, while both Fake Image Detector and Undetectable.ai indicated that the screenshot from the viral clip was “computer-generated” and “likely created by AI”, respectively.
