Viral video of Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz hiding behind bulletproof glass during speech at Dipalpur flood relief function

To reach this conclusion, iVerify Pakistan conducted a keyword and reverse image search to corroborate the visuals.

Posts from multiple PTI supporters on social media platform X on October 20, 2025, shared a video of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during a speech at a flood relief distribution ceremony, claiming that she was behind a bulletproof glass. However, she was not standing behind any bulletproof glass.

In September 2025, the Punjab government announced that it would issue relief cards for flood victims, allowing them to receive aid without waiting in long queues. On Oct 20, the Punjab government announced an allocation of Rs100 billion for the rehabilitation of the victims.

CM Maryam made the announcement while inaugurating the distribution of financial aid cheques among flood victims at the lawns of the District Public School in Dipalpur.

HOW IT STARTED

On Oct 20, a user, who appears to be a PTI supporter based on his past posts, shared a video on X of CM Maryam.

The caption of the post said, “Security, step back, let me talk face-to-face with the people. Maryam Nawaz giving instructions to security while ‘hiding behind bulletproof glass’ in Dipalpur.”

The post gained over 41,000 views.

Another PTI supporter shared the same video with a similar claim with the post captioned: “Maryam Nawaz hid behind bulletproof glass. She used to put up Khan’s pictures and call him a jackal.”

The post gained 171,300 views and was also subsequently reshared by the owner of digital media platform Siasat.pk with the following caption: “Why does Pakistan’s ‘most popular’ CM have to speak from behind bulletproof glass? What is she so afraid of?”

The reshare gained 90,500 views.

The same video with a similar claim was shared by multiple PTI supporters on X as can be seen here, here, here, here, here, here and here.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its high virality and keen public interest in the matter.

A reverse image search yielded a YouTube video of CM Maryam’s address during the distribution of flood cards and relief cheques in Dipalpur on Oct 20, uploaded by Samaa TV the same day, titled: “CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz’s Speech in Depalpur | Distribution of Flood Cards & Relief Checks | SAMAA TV”.

Reviewing the complete video clearly shows that CM Maryam is standing behind a rostrum with no protective glass. The glass seen in the frame, mistaken for a bulletproof shield, is actually part of the counter placed behind her and it can also be seen that the counter numbers are marked with pieces of paper on the glass.

The same speech was also covered by Geo News, sharing the video on its YouTube channel on the very same day, titled “Punjab’s Billions-Rupee Package! Maryam Nawaz: We Didn’t Ask Anyone for Help”.

A similar visual of CM Maryam standing behind the rostrum without any bulletproof glass and ahead of the counters can also be seen in the video.

A video from a user on X was also found that clearly showed a distance between the rostrum and the counter with the glass, with personnel seen working from behind it and distributing money to flood affectees.

The chief minister’s official X account also shared the videos of people receiving the cash from the counters at the same venue, as can be seen here and here.

The glass on the counter can also be clearly seen in the videos.

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim that CM Maryam addressed a flood relief distribution ceremony in Diparlur from behind bulletproof glass is false.

There was no such security measure installed in front of her rostrum and she was standing in front of aid distribution counters that had glass windows.
