CLAIM

Viral video of a man ballot stuffing during recent Bangladesh elections

RATING JUSTIFICATION

The iVerify Pakistan team investigated this content and determined that it is misleading.

To reach this conclusion, iVerify Pakistan conducted a Google reverse image search to trace the original source.

Multiple Bangladeshi users on social media platforms X, Facebook and YouTube shared a video on February 12, 2026, allegedly showing a man stamping multiple ballot papers during the Bangladesh general elections. However, the clip is old, from the 2024 local elections in Chhagalnaiya, Bangladesh.

After former prime minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted in a Gen Z-led uprising in 2024, Bangladesh held general elections on February 12, 2026.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won an overwhelming two-thirds majority, securing 212 of the 299 seats. Meanwhile, the opposition Jamaat-i-Islami and its allies won 70 seats in the Jatiya Sangsad, or House of the Nation.

HOW IT STARTED

On February 12, a social media user, who appears to be Bangladeshi based on his X bio, shared a video showing a man ballot stuffing with the following caption: “Yunus has gifted a very beautiful election in Bangladesh today. Here, I’ve shared the video.”

The post gained 121,525 views.

Another social media account shared the same clip on Facebook with the following caption: “Seal and seal of the ballot paper, the leader ran away after seeing the camera!”

The post garnered two million views.

Another Bangladeshi user also shared a video with a similar claim. The post was captioned: “No one saw anything - you carry on.”

The post accumulated 236,000 views.

The clip with a similar context was shared by several other users on Facebook, as can be seen here and here; on X, as seen here, here, here, here, here, here; on YouTube, as seen here, here, here, here, here and here.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality and keen public interest in Bangladesh’s general elections.

A reverse image search was conducted to trace the video’s source, which yielded a Facebook video shared by Bangla digital media outlet Feni TV on June 5, 2024. The video was captioned: “This voter single-handedly sealed all the ballots in the Chhagalnaiya Upazila Parishad Election 2024”.

According to the post, an individual was seen stamping multiple ballot papers at the Chhagalnaiya (second-tier local government body) elections in 2024.
