Viral video of Pakistan envoy criticising Israel in UNSC over Lebanon bombings

To reach this conclusion, the team conducted a reverse image search and a keyword search to trace the original video.

Multiple users on social media platform X have been sharing a video since April 8, 2026, that allegedly shows Pakistan’s envoy criticising Israel at the UN Security Council for sabotaging the US-Iran peace talks by bombing Lebanon. However, the clip is old and unrelated to the current attacks.

Backchannel diplomatic efforts by Pakistan paid off, as the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire on April 8, 2026, after weeks of escalating hostilities triggered by US-Israeli strikes on February 28, 2026, which quickly spiralled into a wider regional conflict. Pakistan will now host talks between the two sides on April 11, with delegations from Iran and the US arriving in Islamabad.

Meanwhile, Israel conducted a massive aerial attack across Lebanon just hours after the US-Iran ceasefire was reached, killing at least 203 people and wounding more than 1,000 others.

HOW IT STARTED

On April 8, an X user, who seems to be pro-military based on past posts, shared a video of Ambassador Usman Jadoon, the deputy permanent representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, speaking at a UNSC session.

“Pakistan exposes Israel’s heinous and criminal attacks on Lebanon, which killed multiple innocent people. Lebanon is part of the ceasefire between Iran and the US, achieved today by Pakistan, and Israel is attempting to sabotage it,” said the caption.

The post garnered more than 225,000 views.

Another user on X, who describes himself as a media personality in the bio, shared the same clip on April 9 with the following caption: “Major breaking: Pakistan just said it directly.”

His post gathered up to a million views.

The video was posted by PTI parliamentarian Shandana Gulzar on X. “The ceasefire included Lebanon,” she wrote in the post, which accumulated 2,000 views.

Subsequently, the clip was widely circulated on X with similar claims, as seen here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here, collecting over a million views.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its high virality and keen public interest in Pakistan’s mediation in the US-Israel war on Iran and the ceasefire.

A keyword search did not yield any recent reports by credible international or local media outlets on any UNSC session held to discuss the latest situation in Lebanon.

A reverse image search of the viral clip yielded a YouTube video dated March 12, 2026, titled: “Pakistan Slams Israeli Strikes on Lebanon, Urges De-escalation & Dialogue Over Confrontation | AC1N.”

It featured Ambassador Jadoon speaking at a UNSC session, clad in the same attire as the viral video, proving that the clip circulating online predated the US-Iran ceasefire and Lebanon bombing.

In his speech, Ambassador Jadoon called for “Israel’s immediate, full and unconditional withdrawal from all occupied Lebanese territories”.

“Sustainable calm requires the full implementation of Security Council resolution 1701 and unwavering respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity along the blue line.

“We echo the secretary general’s deep concern regarding the regional military escalation since 28th February, which has gravely undermined the November 2024 cessation of hostilities agreement. The situation in Lebanon cannot be viewed in isolation from this broader escalation across the Middle East,” he said.

At no point during the YouTube video did Ambassador Jadoon speak about the US or Iran.

The search also produced an Instagram post by state broadcaster Radio Pakistan, dated March 12, 2026, with the following caption: “Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s continued military aggression in southern Lebanon. The condemnation was expressed by Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Usman Jadoon, during the UN Security Council Emergency meeting regarding the situation in Lebanon.”

“The ambassador reiterated Pakistan’s full support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Lebanon. Usman Jadoon said the international community must take urgent action to prevent further escalation, alleviate humanitarian suffering and support Lebanon’s efforts to restore peace and stability across its territory,” it added.

Separately, a keyword search produced news reports carried by several local media outlets, such as Express Tribune and Radio Pakistan, on March 12, detailing Ambassador Jadoon’s remarks condemning Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

At the time, the Israeli bombardment of Lebanon had forced nearly 700,000 people out of their homes, the reports said, adding that at least 400 civilians, including 83 children, were killed in these attacks.

FACT-CHECK STATUS: MISLEADING

The claim that a viral video shows Pakistan’s UN envoy criticising Israel at the UNSC over the current Lebanon bombings is misleading.

The video is old from March 2026 and unrelated to the current attacks. It shows the official criticising Israel for a previous round of violence in Lebanon.
