Viral video shows Imran Khan in hospital bed

RATING JUSTIFICATION

The iVerify Pakistan team investigated this content and determined that it is false.

To reach this conclusion, iVerify Pakistan conducted a keyword search and forensic analysis of visuals using AI tools.

Multiple users, a majority of whom appear to be PTI supporters based on their past posts, have been sharing a video across social media platforms since August 12, 2026, purportedly showing incarcerated party founder Imran Khan lying on a hospital bed. However, the video is AI-generated.

Imran has remained incarcerated in Adiala Jail while facing multiple legal cases. In early 2026, concerns over his health intensified after his legal team reported that he had developed central retinal vein occlusion, resulting in significant vision loss in his right eye.

The former prime minister was subsequently taken to Pims in Islamabad for an eye examination and follow-up treatment under government supervision. The hospital later stated that he was clinically stable. At the same time, PTI leaders and Imran’s legal team continued to demand treatment at a hospital of their choice and access for his personal physicians, keeping public attention focused on his health. He has since been regularly taken to facility for procedures.

Rumours have been circulating on social media recently about his blood pressure issues and that he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

HOW IT STARTED

On August 11, an X user appearing to be a PTI supporter based on his past posts, shared a video on X, allegedly showing Imran lying on a hospital bed, with the following caption: “O Lord who saved Moses from Pharaoh, help Imran Khan and grant him release”

The post gained 145,200 views.

Another pro-PTI account shared the same clip with the same caption on Facebook, accumulating 93,000 views.

The video was subsequently posted by other PTI supporters on Facebook, as seen here and here, accumulating 72,000 and 69,000 views, respectively.

Several other pro-PTI accounts on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and X also shared the clip, as seen here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here; collectively gaining 204,000 views.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its high virality and keen public interest in Imran’s health.

A keyword search was conducted to verify whether any credible Pakistani media outlets or official PTI platforms had recently reported that Imran had been taken to or admitted to the hospital. However, no such reports or official party statements were found. Similarly, the video was not found to have been shared by any credible media outlets or official party platforms.

The team then examined the viral clip for visual discrepancies. In the video, the doctor appears to stare directly and unusually into the front-facing camera while recording Imran lying on the hospital bed.

The unnatural appearance and behaviour of the individuals in the video raised concerns about its authenticity since such actions could be construed as unprofessional conduct and medical malpractice.

A reverse image search conducted to trace the origin of the clip yielded a TikTok video uploaded at approximately 1:19am PST on August 12, 2026, with the same visuals as in the viral clip. The viral video on X was shared at 8:01pm PST on August 12, 2026.

The original TikTok video, which is slightly clearer than the viral version, contains the same visuals of a doctor appearing to record Imran while he is lying on a hospital bed. The video carries an ‘AI-generated content label,’ indicating the video was created using AI.

The video was originally uploaded by a TikTok account named “ai.hub200”, which, based on its previous posts, regularly shares AI-generated videos depicting Imran in various settings, including prison and hospital environments.

The video was subsequently analysed using AI-detection tools. While several AI-detection tools did not flag the video, UncovAI flagged the video as 65 per cent AI-generated.

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim that a viral video shows Imran Khan lying in a hospital bed amid ongoing rumours about his health is false.

The viral video is AI-generated, and he was not recently taken to the hospital.
