Multiple pro-military accounts on social media platform X shared a clip on January 22, 2026, allegedly showing Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi opposing Pakistan’s inclusion in the Board of Peace. However, the video is doctored through AI.
Pakistan formally joined the United States-led Board of Peace in January 2026 after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the founding charter at the World Economic Forum in Davos alongside US President Donald Trump.
The body was initially presented as a platform to oversee post-war peace arrangements in Gaza, before expanding its stated mandate to broader international conflict resolution. Pakistan accepted the invitation as part of its stated support for diplomatic efforts related to Gaza and regional stability.
HOW IT STARTED
On Jan 22, an X account that appears to be anti-Indian, based on its previous posts and is known for repeatedly posting AI-doctored videos, shared a clip of Gen Dwivedi with the following caption: “Breaking: Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi, ‘We strongly oppose the inclusion of Pakistan into it as Pakistan will take side of Gaza & Hamas. This will go against Israel, so the role of Pakistan in Gaza peace board needs to be exposed. We have concerns that Pakistan might use this platform to legitimise Kashmir cause in the future, which will create trouble on our borders.“
The transcription of the video is provided below:
“In response to your question that Pakistan has been requested to join Gaza peace board by global powers, and India has not. Well, India does not need to be a part of Gaza peace board as we are being represented by Israel there. We strongly oppose the inclusion of Pakistan in it as Pakistan will take side of Gaza and Hamas. This will go against Israel. So the role of Pakistan in Gaza peace board needs to be exposed. We have concerns that Pakistan might use this platform to legitimise Kashmir cause in the future, which will create trouble on our borders. Pakistan is a terrorist country and needs to be shown its place.”
The post gained 40,000 views.
Another pro-military account on X shared the same video with a similar claim, collecting 46,000 views.
The post was captioned: “The chief of the Indian Army, General Upendra Dwivedi, said: We strongly oppose Pakistan’s participation in the Board of Peace because it will support Gaza and Hamas and will be against Israel. We fear that Pakistan may use this board in the future to legitimise its stance on Kashmir.”
The same video with a similar claim was also shared by multiple other pro-military accounts on X, as can be seen here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here; collectively gaining more than 25,000 views.
METHODOLOGY:
A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality and keen public interest in Pakistan’s role in the US-led Board of Peace.
A keyword search yielded no news reports from any credible media outlets that covered any such recent remarks by General Dwivedi.
Analysing the video with AI-detection tool Hive Moderation showed that it was flagged as being 99.8 per cent AI-generated.

Another AI-detection tool, Deepware, flagged the video as an AI-generated deepfake.

A reverse image search yielded the original video of Dwivedi’s full speech at a book launch event in New Delhi on January 22, 2026, by ANI News on its YouTube channel, titled: “Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi LIVE | Redlines Redrawn: Operation Sindoor and India’s New Normal.”
In the speech, Dwivedi made no mention of Gaza or the peace initiative.
The book launch event was also covered by ANI News, as well as multiple other reputable Indian media outlets, such as Times of India and Indian Express, none of which reported any such comments made by Dwivedi.
