RATING JUSTIFICATION

The iVerify Pakistan team investigated this content and determined that it is false.

Multiple pro-Iranian users, based on their past posts, have been claiming on social media platform X since June 17, 2026, that the United Kingdom has warned Israel that it would mobilise international action against it if it launched another strike on Iran. However, no such warning has been issued by the British government.

US and Israeli forces launched a war against Iran on February 28, 2026, resulting in a full-scale multi-state conflict in the Middle East. On June 14, 2026, US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the US and Iran had reached a deal that declared “the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts”.

Trump signed the peace deal in France during the G7 summit, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also signed the document on June 17, Tehran confirmed. Similarly, PM Shehbaz signed the Memorandum of Understanding as the mediator in the US-Iran peace deal on June 18.

HOW IT STARTED

On June 17, an X user, who appears to be pro-Iranian based on their past posts, shared a claim that the United Kingdom had warned Israel that it would rally global action against it if Israel struck Iran again.

The post was accompanied by images of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and British Prime Minister Kier Starmer and had the following caption: “Breaking: UK issues strong warning, UK says it will call all countries to take action against Israel if it again strikes Iran and causes the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz”

The post gained significant traction and attracted 461,000 views on X.

Another pro-Iranian user, based on their past post, shared the same claim with the same visual on X, gaining 771,000 views.

Another pro-Iranian user, based on their past posts, shared the same visuals with the same claim with the following caption: “Breaking: UK says it will call all countries to take action against Israel if it again strikes Iran and causes the blocking of the Straits of Hormuz”

The post was viewed by 59,000 users.

An Indian journalist, based on their bio, shared the same claim in a similar context with the following caption: “The UK has issued a stern warning to Israel. The UK has stated that if Israel attacks Iran again and creates a situation where the Strait of Hormuz is blocked, it will urge all countries to take action against Israel”

The post garnered 43,000 views on X.

Other users shared similar posts with nearly identical wording, alleging that Britain had threatened diplomatic action against Israel, as can be seen here, here, here, here, and here; collectively accumulating 42,000 views.

None of the posts provided any evidence, official statement, government document, press release, or credible media report that provided the source or other details of the alleged warning such as its time, location, date.etc

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its high virality and keen public interest in the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran.

A keyword search was conducted using combinations of terms including “United Kingdom”, “Britain”, “Israel”, “Iran”, “global action”, “warning”, and “strike again” to corroborate whether any credible international, British, Iranian or Israeli media outlets had reported on any such alleged warning but no results were found.

The search also yielded no official statement from the UK government, the British Foreign Office, the Prime Minister’s Office, or any senior British official warning Israel that Britain would rally global action against it if it launched another strike on Iran.

A June 16, 2026, press release from the UK government thanked Pakistan for its role in helping broker the US-Iran peace agreement and reaffirmed Britain’s commitment to working with Pakistan and other partners to support regional stability.

The press release also noted that the UK and its partners would continue efforts to ensure the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, but it contained no warning that Britain would rally countries to take action against Israel if it struck Iran again.

Furthermore, a report by Turkish media outlet Anadolu Agency stated that PM Starmer welcomed the US-Iran agreement and described it as an important step towards ending the conflict, restoring regional stability, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The report further noted that Starmer expressed Britain’s readiness to support the implementation of the agreement and future technical talks.

However, it contained no warning that the UK would mobilise countries to take action against Israel if it launched another strike on Iran.

Had the United Kingdom publicly threatened to organise international action against Israel, the statement would likely have received extensive coverage from major international media outlets. No such coverage was found.

FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim that the UK warned Israel that it would rally global action against Israel if it strikes Iran again is false.

The British government issued no such warning.
