Multiple pro-Iranian users, based on their past posts, have been sharing a video on social media platforms X since June 21, 2026, claiming that it shows Iran’s attack on Israel after a peace deal with the US. However, the video is from June 15 and shows Russia’s drone strike in Kyiv.

RATING JUSTIFICATION

The iVerify Pakistan team investigated this content and determined that it is false.

To reach this conclusion, iVerify Pakistan conducted a keyword search and a reverse image search to trace the original video.

US and Israeli forces launched a war against Iran on February 28, 2026. On June 22, 2026, the US and Iran agreed on a roadmap towards reaching a final peace deal in 60 days after hours-long negotiations in the Swiss resort of Burgenstock. Israel is not party to the talks.

HOW IT STARTED

On June 21, a pro-Iranian account, based on its past posts, shared a video on X allegedly showing Iran’s missile attacks on Israel, with the following caption: “Iran says it has launched its most powerful attack yet against Israel. Iran signals it seeks peace with the US, not Israel.”

The post gained 157,000 views.

Another pro-Iranian account posted the same clip with the following caption: “Iran says it has launched its most dangerous attack yet against Israel. Iran signals it seeks peace with the US — not with Israel.”

It gained 102,000 views.

The same video was subsequently shared by several other users with similar claims, as can be seen here, here, here, and here, collectively gaining 24,000 views.

METHODOLOGY

A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality and keen public interest in the Israel-US war on Iran.

A reverse image search led to news website Nov News sharing the same 3:15-minute video, dated June 15, 2024, with the following title: “Massive attack on Kyiv”.

The visuals in the viral clip match the ones in the news outlet’s clip.

Further search yielded a YouTube video shared by Polish news outlet Telewizja Republika on June 16, 2026, with the following title: “Another night of terror. Russia’s brutal attack on Ukraine”.

The footage from the beginning to the 0:26-second mark of the viral clip is the same as the 0:08-second mark of the YouTube video.

A keyword search yielded an image by international wire news agency Reuters, dated June 15, 2026, with the title, “Russian drone and missile strike in Kyiv”.

The building in the viral clip at 00:47-second timestamp matches that in the news report.

As per the caption of the image, it showed fire and smoke rising over the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, which was hit during Russian missile and drone strikes, amid Russia’s attack on Kyiv on June 15.

The same news report featured multiple images, which can be seen at the 1:12-minute and 1:47-minute mark of the viral video.

Further investigation led to a video posted by Financial Times, dated June 15, 2026, with the following headline: “Russia damages historic Kyiv cathedral in massive missile strike”.

The visuals in the viral clip from the 1:52 to 2:00-minute mark are those of the news report video.

Moreover, the former deputy minister of internal affairs of Ukraine, Anton Gerashchenko, also shared the same video on his official X account, dated June 15, 2026, with the following caption: “Russia has launched its third massive strike during this month on Ukraine and Kyiv.”
