Multiple Indian users on X and other social media platforms shared a video since November 17, 2025, claiming that the deputy press secretary of Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus was attacked on the streets of Dhaka following ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s death sentence. However, the clip does not show the deputy press secretary.

On Nov 17, a Bangladesh court sentenced Hasina to death, concluding a months-long trial that found her guilty of ordering a deadly crackdown on a student-led uprising last year. The International Crimes Tribunal, Bangladesh’s domestic war crimes court located in the capital Dhaka, delivered the guilty verdict amid tight security and in Hasina’s absence after she fled to India in August 2024.

Bangladesh was tense ahead of the verdict, with at least 30 crude bomb explosions and 26 vehicles torched across the country over the past few days. No casualties were reported.

Indian local digital media outlet Kolkata24x7 also published a news story linking the viral video to unrest in Bangladesh following political tensions involving Hasina.

METHODOLOGY

A fact check was initiated to determine the authenticity of the claim due to its virality and the public interest in the evolving political situation in Bangladesh.

A keyword search in English and Bangla did not yield any news reports from credible mainstream international or Bengali media outlets regarding an attack on the deputy press secretary. Similarly, no official announcement, press release or government statement was issued regarding the alleged incident.

Secondly, the appearance of the man in the video did not match that of Apurba Jahangir, the deputy press secretary of Bangladesh.

 .

No mention of the alleged incident was also found on Jahangir’s social media profiles.

A reverse search to trace the original video yielded a Facebook post from News Now Bangla, where the same clip was originally uploaded on October 15, 2025.

The video showed a heated exchange that appears to be an incident of road rage. Furthermore, the viral clip was taken and mirrored from the original video.

Contacts in Bangladesh further confirmed that the man in the video was not Yunus’s deputy press secretary, and the footage shows a roadside argument with cursing.

No evidence links the event to Bangladeshi political leadership or any government official.

FACT CHECK STATUS: FALSE

The claim that a viral video shows Yunus’s deputy press secretary being attacked is false.

The video is of a road rage incident from October 2025.
