Several people on social media platform X shared a video on December 1, 2025, that allegedly showed Indian Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector General (IG) (Kashmir Front) Ashok Yadav criticising the central government on its counter-terrorism policy. However, the video is doctored through AI.
Tensions between India and Pakistan had flared in April 2025 when a deadly terror attack on tourists in occupied Kashmir was blamed on Islamabad, which denied the accusations. The two sides exchanged a series of tit-for-tat blows, culminating in a ceasefire declaration by United States President Donald Trump in May.
In the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, Indian forces arrested more than 2,000 Kashmiris and demolished several homes in a sweeping crackdown. The arrests were carried out across multiple districts, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Kupwara, Baramulla, Budgam, Islamabad, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam.
HOW IT STARTED
On Dec 1, an X account that appears to be anti-Indian based on its previous posts and is known for repeatedly sharing doctored videos, shared a clip of Ashok Yadav.
The caption read: “Breaking news: BSF IG Kashmir Ashok Yadav makes shocking revelations. We have achieved zero on counter-terrorism because the centre government is refusing to provide us with our procurement budgets and funds, we are absolutely failing.”
The post gained over 14,400 views.
The transcript of the video is provided below:
“BSF, in coordination with nobody in particular, proudly confirms that we neutralised exactly zero terrorists in 2025. In fact, four infiltration attempts were made, and all four successfully waved at us while crossing. Our G branch, which claims to provide critical intelligence, has spent most of the year misidentifying cows, shadows, and occasionally our own patrols as high-value threats.
“We would also like to clarify that our famous close watch on 69 launching pads has resulted in spotting absolutely nothing because our binoculars have still been waiting for procurement since last year. As for the 100 to 120 terrorists allegedly waiting to infiltrate across the LoC (Line of Control), our latest assessment suggests they might already be inside, perhaps running small businesses by now. Simultaneously, various training camps remain under scrutiny, which mostly means we zoom in on random hillsides and declare victory in PowerPoint presentations. Our intelligence wing is working tirelessly to ensure that our confusion remains consistent throughout the year.”
Another pro-military account also shared the same video with the same caption, gaining over 108,000 views.
The same video with a similar claim was shared by multiple PML-N supporters and pro-military accounts on X, as can be seen here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here, collectively gaining over 50,000 views.
METHODOLOGY
A fact-check was initiated to determine the veracity of the claim due to its virality and keen public interest in the matter.
Analysing the video using forensic tool Attestive showed that it labelled the clip with a 46 per cent suspicion rating.

Another forensic tool, Deepware, also flagged the clip as a deepfake.

A reverse image search was conducted to trace the complete original press conference and yielded a YouTube video uploaded on Dec 1, 2025, by ANI News on its official channel.
The video was titled: “Live: IG BSF Kashmir Frontier Ashok Yadav press briefing |Op Sindoor |Pahalgam attack |J&K |Pakistan.”
In the video, which shows the annual press conference, Yadav can be seen talking about terrorism, infiltration and cross-border misadventure. At no point did he mention any critical comments on the central government or failures in counter-terrorism, as mentioned in the claim
Furthermore, a keyword search also yielded multiple mainstream media outlet reports covering the conference, such as by Zee News, The New Indian Express and ANI News, none of which mentioned any of the comments claimed in the viral video.
FACT-CHECK STATUS: FALSE
The claim that a viral video shows an occupied Kashmir official criticising the Indian government on its counter-terrorism policy is false.
The clip is doctored and has been dubbed over through AI-generated audio.
