METHODOLOGY
A fact-check was initiated to assess the veracity of the claim due to its virality and keen public interest in instances of abuse and overreach in violence by state authorities.
A reverse image search yielded a Facebook post by Express News dated August 8, 2025, with the caption: “Brutal assault on a woman by a police officer in Pakpattan! Punjab Police’s conduct raises serious questions; video goes viral, sparking fierce criticism; chief minister takes action.”
According to the report, the incident took place in the Saddar town of PakPattan on July 12, 2025. It stated that the assistant sub-inspector posted at Chowki Farid Town, Malik Ijaz, went to the woman’s house to get it vacated. He was also accompanied by a female police officer.
The video of the assault was recorded by a neighbour and uploaded to social media a month later, the report added.
The search also yielded a video report by Urdu Point, a Urdu language news website, posted on TikTok on August 8, 2025. It featured an interview with the woman who was assaulted.
Recounting the incident, she said that the police officers entered her house from the roof. “They dragged me by my hair, beat me up, and threatened me,” she said, adding that she was at home with her two children at the time of the police raid.

Runway Pakistan, an online content creation platform, also shared the video on its Facebook page in August 2025. “An assistant sub-inspector in Pakpattan has been arrested after a video surfaced showing him slapping a woman during a raid, triggering public outrage. The incident occurred on July 12 when the officer raided the home of a divorced woman accused by her ex-husband of illegal occupation and theft,” the caption reads.
It added that the video emerged 25 days after the incident took place, prompting the district police officer to take swift action and register a case against the ASI.
Other local media accounts, such as SAMAA TV, Geo News, and Public News, also shared the video around the same time last year.
Furthermore, a keyword search yielded a news report by Dawn, dated August 8, 2025, with the headline: “ASI held for slapping woman during raid”.
It said a first information report was registered against the policeman in question on the complaint of Saddar Station House Officer Khizer Hayat.
Similar reports were also published by Nukta and The Current, thereby proving that the incident was not recent.
